Recently, the school launched a whole school reading challenge aimed at promoting the enjoyment of reading. Each day, the children spend 30 minutes reading a book of their choice independently. They also engage in good quality non-fiction texts with a weekly session in the school library. A ‘Reading Champion’ title, as well as a prize, will be awarded to pupils who have spent the most time reading at home and in school. Parents are being asked to support this initiative by signing a time sheet to confirm these times. During the competition period, weekly homework tasks will include a reading activity on the school’s Hwb page. Children will have the opportunity to borrow a book from their class library to enjoy, or they may wish to bring their own to school. We hope that pupils will enjoy the opportunity to read a good book!
