Today, Senor Pinatti and Gerald Conn from Gritty Animation met with some of the children to discuss the upcoming animation project. Bedwas Junior School and Rhydri Primary School have managed to secure part funding of £5,000 from Film Cymru Wales to support the making of an animation film about the Welsh settlers in Patagonia. Children in two classes will each have the opportunity to work with animation film company, Gritty Realism. Children will create one of two animations based on the viewpoint of either the Welsh settlers or the Patagonians. Children in one school will record their voices for the animation in the Welsh language. The other school will take on the role of the Spanish speakers from Patagonia and create the same story from an alternative viewpoint.
Film specialists from Chapter Arts Centre will be visiting and providing sessions based upon storyboarding and film literacy. In other lessons, children across the school will be researching this fascinating aspect of Welsh History and develop their own ideas for the direction of the film.
