Yesterday, pupils in year 6 met Ashley Davies, a para-sport table tennis champion. Ashley was the Welsh and UK number one and was in the top 40 in the world. As well as having the chance to play table tennis against Ashley, children also had the opportunity to talk to him about his life. This included a discussion about the ‘bad’ choices he made as a teenager, which led to an accident which left him disabled. The discussion between Ashley and the children also focused on substance misuse, consequences and ways of overcoming it. The children were also interested to learn how living with a disability does not prevent Ashley from living a rewarding, enriching life. All pupils were really interested by his life story and asked a range of questions about peer pressure as a teenager, disability and sport.
