School Blog – Communication

The school works very hard to maintain good communication with parents and carers about the life of the school.  One of the best ways to find out about the life of the school is through our school blog which can be found at the following web address:

www.bedwasjunior.com

Parents and carers can receive updates as they occur through an email subscription box which is located on the right hand side of the page.  If you subscribe then you will receive each individual post straight to your personal inbox.  Parents/carers are then able to delete the posts that are not relevant to their child.  This is a very handy way to keep track of all the exciting things happening in school!

Recently, we have added the following information:

  • A video of the children’s visit to Parkland’s Care Home;
  • Pictures from the children’s ‘Be Bright Day’
  • Photographs from the upper school ‘World War II’ day.

This is in addition to everything that is available on the school newsletter.

Some areas of the site are password protected.  Please contact the School Office if you do not know the password. Please do not share this password.  Please be aware that photos are only to be shared between our school community and should not be uploaded on social media sites such as Facebook. Unfortunately, we will not be able to share photos should this occur.

Learning at Home – Hwb/E-Safety

Many thanks to everyone who has supported the nightly mathematics homework tasks that have been set by class teachers over the last few weeks.  They have had a huge impact on lessons and have helped the children with their multiplication tables and number bonds.

The Hwb is an interactive tool, which allows pupils to access class information and complete online tasks linked to lessons completed in school. The Hwb also allows teachers the opportunity to communicate with parents/carers about weekly homework tasks and upcoming activities in class. The Hwb can be used by parents to access curriculum information, links to other educational sites and general class information such as P.E days/reading at home information.

Upper school children will use the Hwb this year to complete a blog post to reflect on lessons completed in class. Online homework in upper school will be set once a fortnight on a Wednesday and is expected to be completed by the following Monday. Lower school children will use the Hwb at home to reply to a discussion post set by their teacher on a fortnightly basis.

If your child does not have access to the internet at home, the school laptops are available after school every day until 4pm. This provides opportunities for parents to support and supervise their children in the completion of homework tasks.

Children will be receiving lessons in school on how to use the Hwb.  However, it is always helpful when parent are able to support at home if necessary.

The school would like to invite all parents to an E-Safety/Hwb workshop on Monday 5th October at 5:30pm.  E-safety is an aspect of safety which is an increasing concern to parents/carers. The session will provide information on the latest issues around social media and the Internet, as well as tips for helping children stay safe online.

In addition to the talk on e-safety led by PC Winfield, the session will include a workshop on how to provide support for parents in the use of the Hwb;

Access To School Photographs

Hwb Information

As children are aware the Hwb is an interactive tool, which allows pupils to access class information and complete online tasks linked to lessons completed in school. The Hwb also allows teachers the opportunity to communicate with parents/carers about weekly homework tasks and upcoming activities in class. Parents are able to access curriculum information, links to other educational sites and general class information such as P.E days/reading at home information.

The Hwb has also recently introduced the use of new exciting features. These include Encyclopaedia Britannica, which can be used for research, Just2Easy, which has a range of typing, drawing and coding programmes and Office 365. These features can be accessed using your child’s Hwb log in details via https://hwb.wales.gov.uk and clicking the links on the right hand side of the page.

Upper school children will continue using the Hwb during the summer term to complete a blog post to reflect on lessons completed in class. Online homework in upper school will be set once a fortnight on a Wednesday and is expected to be completed by the following Monday. Lower school children will continue using the Hwb at home to reply to a discussion post set by their teacher on a fortnightly basis.

Photographs On School Website

Through our school blog, we provide a wealth of information to parents. We want the website to reflect the children in our school and using the ‘password protect’ option, we include photographs of the children at work and play. We are very aware of the safety issues that are connected to the use of photographs and follow guidelines based on good practice adhering to the following policy:

  • children’s names are not published;
  • children will only be shown in photos where they are suitably dressed;
  • personal details of children, staff and governors, such as home addresses, telephone numbers, personal e-mail addresses, etc, will not be released via the website.

Please be aware that photos are only to be shared between our school community and should not be uploaded on social media sites such as Facebook. Unfortunately, we will not be able to share photos should this occur.

If you would like the password to access the photos, please contact the school office.

If you do not wish your child to appear in photographs on the school blog, please complete the form which is being sent as part of today’s newsletter and return to school by Friday 24th April.

Please do not hesitate in contacting the school should you have any questions or concerns.
