Recently, the ‘Tommy Cooper Society’ visited school to present the children with a special award. This award will be presented each week to the pupils who make others ‘happy’ in school! We are very proud to have such a unique award in school. The winners will also be able to wear a fez in class all day to celebrate their success!
The visit by the Tommy Cooper Society to school was recently reported in the Caerphilly Observer. The link can be found at:
We are currently advertising for a meal time supervisor to work Monday to Friday between 12:00pm – 1:00pm. Please contact the school if you are interested in applying for the position.
Parent teacher consultations will be on Wednesday 12th October and Thursday 13th October. Letters will be sent home to parents/carers within the next week. The school makes every effort to provide an appointment time which matches the parents’ initial request. Can I stress the importance of attending the parent teacher consultation – these meetings are an excellent opportunity to discuss the progress your child is making in school.
During the school year, children often receive rewards for a range of initiatives. This summer, children who achieved 100% attendance for the summer term were given the opportunity to either attend an IT session at the Apple Store or a surfing lesson at Rest Bay in Porthcawl. The IT trainers and the surfing coaches all commented on the children’s excellent behaviour and their positive attitude to learning.
In the autumn term, we will be seeking feedback from parents/carers on all our incentives, including the recent attendance one. We would welcome your views on how we continue to provide rewards for the children’s achievements.
Congratulations to every child in school who today attended this year’s special event for good behaviour. In the morning, the children created a variety of savoury and sweet food with different teachers across the school. In the afternoon, the children played party games and enjoyed the food they had prepared in the morning. The children had a fantastic time – we think that this was the best ‘special event’ ever! Thank you to all the teachers and parent helpers who made the day such a wonderful experience!

On Tuesday 12th July at 9:30am, we will be hosting our termly instrumental concert. In addition to the usual performances, year six children will also be participating in order to celebrate their time here in Bedwas Juniors and mark their transition to the High School. This promises to be a lovely event for the children before they move up to year seven. Parents and carers are very welcome to join us for the assembly.
All year 6 children are invited to attend the party which will be held between 6pm-8:30pm in Bedwas Community Centre on Friday 8th July. Thank you to the PTA who have organised and funded this event. All Year 6 children will also be given a year group photo at the end of the year, which has also been funded by the PTA.
Apologies for the mistake on last week’s newsletter. The school logo is not being redesigned – the uniform remains the same as the current year.
The school uniform will remain the same next year:
- Navy blue v-neck jumper with a ‘Bedwas Junior School’ name logo. (available from ‘All Wear’ solutions);
- White polo-shirt (no logo) or white shirt;
- Grey trousers for boys/girls. Girls may wear grey skirts also. Blue and white checked dresses may be worn in the summer months;
- Dark coloured shoes. Black trainers which are designed to look like shoes are acceptable. However, no other colour other than black is allowed on the trainer. Parents will be contacted if children are not wearing appropriate footwear;
- Dark or grey coloured socks.
- White t-shirt (no logo)
- Dark coloured shorts
Please note: Jogging trousers of any description are not part of everyday school uniform (The only exception being for P.E. lessons in colder weather).
We have just received notification from Machen Primary School that the cluster sports event will be cancelled today due to the poor weather conditions.
I will inform parents/carers should an alternative date be arranged. Apologies to those who were planning to attend.
Sports Day will go ahead as planned. We aim to start as close to 12:30pm as possible.
We are aiming to start our sports day this morning at 9:10am on the school playground. Due to the recent weather, the secondary school field is quite slippery and wet. However, the forecast is good for the next few hours. Therefore, we will make a decision about this afternoon’s events at 10:45am. We will post the update on the school blog.
This week’s newsletter will be sent home on Wednesday. Apologies for the slight delay.
Parents/carers may be aware that all schools are colour coded under the National Categorisation system.
The system which has been revised since 2015 helps the Local Authority to identify schools:
- needing the most support and guidance
- doing well but that could be doing better,
- that are highly effective and can help others improve.
As a school we are proud and delighted with the outcome which can be viewed using the following link:
Thank you to everyone who donated items of food for the food bank collection before the end of term. We were overwhelmed with the donations. Thank you very much!
Thank you to everyone who donated to Children in Need this week. As a result of everyone’s generosity, the school raised £140.00.
On Wednesday 18th November, the ‘Colorfoto’ photographer will be in school to take photographs of the children individually or with their siblings. Children having their photograph taken with a brother or sister in nursery or the infants, will be photographed first at 8:30am. We would very much appreciate it if all children wore school uniform. Examples will be sent home for parents to view in a few weeks. Any orders can be returned to school.
