For those eligible for FREE School meals – CCBC will be distributing packed lunches to Bedwas Comprehensive school daily from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th March between 11:00am and 1:00pm. They will have a register on site so there is no need to bring proof of receipt.

We will then contact you to obtain further information in order that we will be able to coordinate appropriate ways of delivery and any special dietary requirements.
It is anticipated that the meals will be in frozen batches of 5 per pupil and will be prepared and consumed at the home address.
If you require any further information please telephone 01495 237921.
In order for Caerphilly County Borough Council to start planning and supporting parents who work in the Emergency Services, NHS and Social Care settings, they need to identify who these parents are.
Please could you contact the school ASAP if you work in these settings so we can identify the parents who are in need of this childcare offer. At this moment in time this needs to be key staff who work in the Emergency Services, NHS and Social Care settings only.
Please note there is no football club after school on Friday.
Following Welsh Government advice, a decision has been made for all schools in Wales to close by this Friday. Bedwas Junior School will stay open as normal until Friday 20th March for anyone who wishes their children to attend. Any free school meal children who are well, but are not planning on attending school on Thursday or Friday are still welcome to come into school for their lunch – Please contact the school if your child is entitled to free school meals and you would like them to receive a school lunch on Thursday or Friday.
All teachers have set work on a selection of the online learning platforms we use such as Purple Mash, My Maths, HWB etc. Children can freely access My Maths and Purple Mash and use any of the options to practise previously covered skills without a specific activity being set by the class teacher. Children will be sent home with packs of work that have been prepared by the teachers in addition to being able to access further work will be set on the online platforms. If your child is not currently in school, you will be able to collect the packs from school on Thursday or Friday. If you are unable to arrange to pick up on either of those days the school site will be open next week. The days and times of opening will be communicated via the school blog.
The year 5/6 representatives of Rhydri school council visited the school council in Bedwas last week to share the session they had received from the School Nurse on ‘effective hand-washing’. This was booked in quite a while ago; I don’t think that anyone could have foreseen how timely it would be. The councils worked very well together and Bedwas School council were able to share their new knowledge with all of the classes in Bedwas.

As a precaution, we have shut off the school water fountains. This means that children have to bring a water bottle to school with them.
We have been supplying children with cups of water today but it is safer for each child to bring their own water bottle to school for hygiene reasons.
Please keep checking the official website links that have previously been posted as these are being updated daily.
Please note that this week Art & Crafts and Choir clubs will not take place on Tuesday (17th March) in order for the teachers to be available for any requested telephone consultations. Currently, other clubs will continue as planned.
Thank you for your understanding.
In the light of the current situation and related concerns, the PTCs for Bedwas Juniors are being postponed. If there is a pressing concern you wish to discuss with your child’s teacher they will be available until 5pm on Tuesday and Wednesday for a telephone consultation. If you require a telephone consultation please arrange a convenient time with the school office.
Dear Parents and Carers,
We would like to take this opportunity to update you with the situation regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
- The school continues to follow all advice issued by Public Health, Welsh Government and Local Authority. The school has not been advised to close at this time.
- Hand washing facilities are well stocked and the children receive constant messages about how to properly wash hands in order to maintain good hygiene.
- We are monitoring all trips / activities and making decisions on a case by case basis in line with government advice. We will keep parents/ carers informed of any plans to cancel trips or other school activities.
- We are now preparing to provide work for your children should the school need to close for any length of time. Most work will be added to the online learning platforms which we use such as Purple Mash, My Maths and Hwb. Children will be provided with these log-ons if they do not already have them. We will also endeavour to send some work home that does not need to be completed online.
Whilst this continues to be a difficult and fluid time for us all, I hope this correspondence gives you the assurance that the school is responding appropriately during this period. Until we receive other advice, we will continue to operate a full and normal day (including After School and Extra Curricular clubs), welcoming your children to school every day.
Finally for further updates please refer to the school blog. For further Coronavirus advice please refer to https://phw.nhs.wales/
